Together they conceived the idea of the symphonic poem, and at the same time, in 1830, Liszt began composing his first piano concerto. He was still constantly learning while he was composing the piece, which was premiered in Weimar in 1855. He continued working on it afterwards, further refining it. Berlioz's Fantastical Symphony was premiered in 1830, yet it still has a modern feel, with its prevalent and multifaceted eccentricity. János Balázs is a winner of the Liszt Prize and the Kossuth Prize, and an associate professor at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music. Charles Dutoit is a true star; he was a music director in Montreal for 25 years, a principal conductor in Philadelphia, Paris, Tokyo and London. He is unrivalled in performing French music. It is a pleasure and an honor for our orchestra that he has been accepting our invitation every year since 2019.
