The third Antal Doráti International Conducting Competition was held in in Budapest in 2021 September, in memory of the world-famous Hungarian conductor, Antal Doráti (1906-1988). Around 300 applications were submitted for the competition. Following the eliminatory phase, 66 candidates were shortlisted for the semi-finals, where they conducted the MÁV Symphony Orchestra. After the first two rounds, six of were admitted to the finals, where a jury of experts from six countries assessed the artistic performance of the finalists.
The winner of the third Antal Doráti International Conducting Competition was Rémi Durupt from France, who is the most sought-after opera conductor in his country. Besides the gold plate, the first prize included an invitation to the MÁV Symphony Orchestra to give a solo concert in Budapest on October 14 at 11:00 am in the Italian Cultural Institute's concert hall.
The concert will feature renown works by some of the greatest French composers, conducted by Durupt. The audience will hear the beautiful, intimate and popular ballet Bolero by the widely celebrated Maurice Ravel (1875-1937) and the sparklingly witty symphony Carmen by the world-famous Georges Bizet (1838-1875). The program will also include the admired cello concerto by the English composer Edward Elgar (1857-1934), featuring the solo performance of Richárd Rózsa cellist of the MÁV Symphony Orchestra.
