The two programs of the concert are also about an emotion as old as humanity itself, an emotion which has caused much sorrow and even tragedy: jealousy. Shakespeare's timeless drama has inspired many musical masterpieces (for example Verdi's opera). In 1890, Dvořák composed a cicle of three concert overtures, titled Nature, Life and Love, the third one also titled Othello, obviously inspired by Shakespeare's drama. Leoš Janáček composed his opera Jenufa in 1894, and entitled the overture "Jealousy". The concert program, full of Slavic music, is nicely enriched by Stravinsky's ballet suite and Rachmaninoff's Variations on a Theme of Paganini, which is considered the composer's fourth piano concerto.

Liszt Prize-winner Gábor Farkas is a world-famous performer of the Romantic repertoire, winner of several international piano competitions, and a regular guest at the most prestigious concert halls of Asia, the United States and Europe. He has been a ‚Steinway Artist‘ and a professor at the Tokyo College of Music since 2017. He has been the head of the Keyboard and Harp Department of the Doctoral School of the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, Hungary for two years. Since 2022, he has been the artistic director of the Far Eastern Classical Music Festival.

Our offer

The 18th century was not only an age of extravagant splendour, but also of discovery and radical transformation. The unique suite composed by the prolific German composer Georg Philipp Telemann is a testimony of this complex era, written to showcase the music of different nations to the audiences. However, the concerto genre itself reflects a new ideal of the man who stands out from his surroundings, always striving for more, which is demonstrated in Alessandro Marcello's Oboe Concerto arranged for trumpet, performed by Tamás Sipos, This concert also features arias by the elder Scarlatti, performed by soprano Réka Kristóf, who has devoted a significant part of her career to early music. Finally, conductor Róbert Farkas concludes his musical tour with an orchestral suite by the great Bach.

The names of Mussorgsky and Ravel became intertwined through the orchestral version of Pictures at an Exhibition. Although thousands of kilometres and decades separated them, due to their elegance and expressiveness, it is no far-fetched to consider them distant relatives. Between the enchanting soundscapes of Mother Goose and Musorgsky's stirring, moving tableaux, Ravel's "two-handed" Piano Concerto in G major, born exactly 150 years ago to the day, is performed by one of the composer's most unique and esteemed interpreters, the two-time Kossuth and Franz Liszt Prize winner Dezső Ránki. Our orchestra is conducted by Maxim Rysanov, a violist of the highest reputation, who steps on the conductor's baton ever more often.

The musicians of our orchestra prepare their favorite pieces for the interactive program recommended for 0-3 year-old children. Edit Székely, the mastermind behind the series, is a flute-player and music teacher, who will make the event even more exciting with children’s songs and plays.
