From Hungary to Britain, our program is full of humor and light-heartedness. Albin Leszkovszki's work, composed twenty-one years ago, brings to life the traditions of the recruitment songs of Veszprém, while Pál Járdányi's short violin concerto is influenced by the folk song tradition of Bartók and Kodály. The Ball Music is part of György Orbán's Razumovsky Trilogy; a lively chamber piece that pays tribute to Beethoven's patron. The works of Elgar and Britten demand virtuosity from the musicians; the latter, the Variations on a Theme of Frank Bridge, were written for the composer's teacher. This time the MÁV Symphony Orchestra is led by Péter Kováts, a Bartók-Pásztory Prize winner conductor from Veszprém, renowned as a chamber musician and teacher, who will also be the solo violinist in the concert.
